Downeast Salmon Federation

Beginning with the removal of the Pleasant River dam and the renovation of the facility as a hatchery and fisheries research center in Columbia Falls, DSF led the removal of the East Machias River dam and received the National Coastal America Partnership Award. The East Machias site is now home to DSF’s Peter Gray Hatchery for the restoration of Atlantic salmon.

The Wild Blueberry Commission of Maine

Maine is the only state in the US that grows the lowbush wild blueberry on a commercial scale, and the Commission works on behalf of Maine’s 500 growers and processors of Wild Blueberries in the areas of research and education, promotion, and policy. Wild blueberries have grown in Maine for 10,000 years and are not planted. They are smaller, more intensely flavored, and have 2x the antioxidants of regular cultivated (highbush) blueberries. 99% of the crop is frozen within 24 hours of harvest and can be found nationwide in grocery freezer sections.
